Tony Dungy

America has always been well known for its culture and its love for sports. One of the most famous sports of all time is American football. There has been a lot of professional American football players and coaches, but none will ever measure up to Tony Dungy.

One of the most famous football players and coaches of all time is Tony Dungy. His favorite junk food is chocolate cake, his favorite actor is Denzel Washington, his favorite film is “Coach Carter” and his hero is Jackie Robinson. He was born on October 6, 1955 in Jackson, Michigan, where he attended Parkside High School and played the quarterback position on the football team. In 1980, Dungy was invited to become an assistant coach for the University of Minnesota. And after only one season he was asked to come back to the NFL as an assistant coach for the Steelers. Tony was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 to 2001 and head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2002 to 2008. He was the first African-American head coach to win the Super Bowl on February 4, 2007. On December 18, 2008 he set a new NFL record for consecutive playoff appearances by a head coach.

On January 12, 2009 he announced his retirement that went into effect after the 2008-2009 season. He will be replaced by Jim Caldwell, who will become the new head coach for the Indianapolis Colts.
