When you start to talk about most significant wins in Colts history you can’t just talk about the Indianapolis Colts. Before the Colts were in Indianapolis they were the Baltimore Colts and that is part of the teams history as well. So with that in mind, we will try to talk about the most significant wins in Colts history, Baltimore and Indianapolis.
When you talk about most significant wins in a sports team’s history of course you start with any and all championships won by the team. So with the Colts that would be in 1958 when the team won its first NFL championship by beating the New York Giants 23-17 in an overtime thriller that some people call the greatest game ever played. The next year, the Colts again won the NFL Championship against the Giants this time winning a little easier with a score of 31-16. It was shortly after that that the NFL entered the Super Bowl era and in 1971 the Colts got there and defeated the Dallas Cowboys 16-13 on a last second field goal by Jim O’Brian.
The next Super Bowl win for the Colts didn’t come until 36 years latter when the Colts beat the Chicago Bears with a final score of 29-17, for Peyton Manning’s first championship. That is all the championships that the Colts have in their history, however, there is another game that needs to be added to this list. That game is the 2006 AFC championship game against the rival New England Patriots. The reason is that the Patriots always beat the Colts on their way to their championships, and now it was finally the Colts turn.
With little doubt these are the most significant wins in Colts history.
