Bob Sanders

Bob Sanders is a professional football player with the Indianapolis Colts. He plays the position of “safety.” Sanders played his college ball at the University of Iowa where he racked up an auspicious amount of rewards. He was drafted 44 in round 2 of the 2004 NFL draft, by the Indianapolis Colts, where he remains today.

Sanders was born February 21, 1981 in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he spent his high school years at Erie Central High School. He completed his high school career with a total of 900 rushing yards and a total of 17 touchdowns. He also led his team, as its captain, to the state championships.

The 2007 football season started with the Colts showing a very strong defense. Sports writers agree that Bob Sanders is virtually the cause for all the applause. His performance at strong safety has been outstanding with an aggressive defense the Colts were lacking.

The nagging question is if Sanders can remain healthy. He has had knee and foot injuries that have sidelined him in the past. If he can keep from re-injuring those vulnerable areas, and not injure anything else, he should be a force to be reckoned with thought this season of play.

When Sanders played at Iowa he was assigned number 33. He really wanted to have his old high school number which was 20, but it was already in use by another player. When that player left school, Sanders again requested a change to number 20, but was told that he and his number 33 had become quite popular and they didn’t want to, “upset the apple cart,” by changing his number in mid-stream.
