Colts Safety Bob Sanders

Bob Sanders was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania and was given the birth name of Demond Sanders. Growing up with the name Demond wasn’t easy for Sanders, so eventually he started going by his nickname “Bob” and it stuck. Bob Sanders grew up with a football in his hand and he took his talents to Erie Central High School, but soon transferred to Cathedral Preparatory. In high School Sanders played duel positions, Safety and running back. Sanders was especially productive in his senior year with over 900 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns, and he was the team captain. After high school, Sanders attended the University of Iowa.

Sanders continued to show great ability in college, but due to his small size, many wondered if he would be professional football material. During his senior year in college, Sanders battled injury and was not able to play in the Senior Bowl. Even with injuries, Sanders impressed many and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2nd round with the 44th pick.

In his rookie year with the Colts, Sanders played primarily back up and on special teams. In his second year, Sanders played in 14 games and impressed many with 72 tackles and 20 assists, but once again battled injury in his third year and playing in just 4 games. Over the 5 seasons with the Colts, Sanders has played in 45 games and has 218 tackles and 72 assists and 3.5 sacks. Sanders earned the title of Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice.
