If you are an Indianapolis Colts fan, you know well the name of Anthony Gonzalez. Selected as the 32nd pick in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, Gonzalez was slotted to be the heir apparent to star wide receiver Marvin Harrison. Since Harrison's recent release in the offseason of 2009, Gonzalez's contribution to the Colts offense is expected to be much more substantial this season.
Although Gonzalez is still relatively new by National Football League standards, his start in the league has been positive enough to give Colts fans hope. They now have a reason to believe that he will be able to handle the receiving load for the team now that Harrison has departed. Beginning his career at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Gonzalez played in two sports, both football and track and field. On the football field he played both on the offense and defensive sides of the ball, and was a standout in both sports.
Moving on to Ohio State, where he played with some other notable players like Santonio Holmes and Troy Smith, Gonzalez started for three years and lettered with the team those years. Since reaching the NFL, he has had a productive two years in the Indianapolis offense. In his two seasons playing behind Marvin Harrison, Gonzalez has still managed to play in twenty nine games, with ninety four catches, 1,240 total yards and an average reception of 13.2 yards. Anthony Gonzalez is in the beginning stages of his NFL career, he is expected by many to have a very successful and full career.
