Marvin Harrison, who was born August 25, 1972 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has been released from his contract with the Colts. Marvin, whose pay with the Colts was $13.4 million refused a cut in pay and is now a free agent. The Colts said that they could not afford to keep paying Marvin Harrison that much money, and when he refused to take a cut in pay the team let him go.
Marvin was a first round draft choice for the Colts in 1996. While playing for them he broke several records. Not only is he the only player to have 4 consecutive 100 or more reception seasons in NFL history, he is also the only player to have 4 consecutive seasons with 1,400 receiving yards in NFL history.
Although the reason stated as to why the Colts released Harrison was monetary, there are other rumors going around. According to ESPN.com it is said that one of these could be his age. Harrison at the age of 36 may have been looking at the end of a career in NFL football, as most of the players now are 30 and under. In the last two seasons Harrison missed at least a dozen games because of injuries. Last year was also his second worst season in which he played more than 10 games.
The Colts are saying that Harrison has not lost his quickness nor his hands, and that he is as great a player as ever.
