Dwight Freeny

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney was born on February 19, 1980 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was drafted by the Colts in 2002 in the first round of the draft and was the 11th pick. His career started with a bang, as he set a record in forced fumbles his first year and was also the runner up for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Freeney has had many honors throughout his professional career, such as being selected to the Pro Bowl in years 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008. He was also selected for the All Pro in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He led the National Football League in sacks during the year of 2004 and is the Colts leader in all time sacks, with 70 and a half. He also had the honor of being the AFC Defensive Player of the Year in 2005.

Before his professional career, Dwight was a four sport letterman at Bloomfield High School in Connecticut, three of which were in football. His 120 sacks while attending high school is still a record. His awards were numerous, including SuperPrep, Prep Football Report, USA Today, New Haven Register, Hartford Courant and Blue Chip Illustrated All-American, just to name a few. He was also a two year starter at Syracuse University in New York, where he ranked at second place with 34 sacks, among other college highlights. Some of his awards here include All American, All Big East Conference 1st team, Big East co-defensive Player of the Year and was a finalist for the best lineman. This talented young man seems to have come to his success very naturally.
