Demond "Bob" Sanders was born in 1981 in Pennsylvania. In his first year of high school, he went to Erie Central High, and the rest of his high school years were spent at Cathedral Preparatory School, where he graduated in 2000. While at Cathedral, he played football as a safety and running back. Bob lettered every year, and was twice selected for the All Conference and once for All State. He was made the team captain in his senior year.
From Cathedral, Bob went to the University of Iowa. He received the nickname of Hitman due to doing the most tackling Iowa had ever seen just during his freshman year. Bob graduated with a major in African American World Studies in 2003, when he was also named the Most Valuable Player for the season.
In 2004, Bob was drafted in the second round by the Indianapolis Colts. He was a rookie who played a backup safety, but he managed to score his first touchdown against the Houston Texans in week ten of the season. By 2005, he was a starter, playing a defensive back, and was able to play in the Pro Bowl because of actions on the field in tackling. He helped his team win Super Bowl XLI.
The year 2007 had him being named AFC Defensive Player of Week two of the season. Bob also signed a contract with the Colts that made him the most highest paid safety in NFL history. He was named 2007 AP Defensive Player of the Year. 2008 has had him missing games due to injuries of his ankle and knee. His ankle has been fixed, but he is currently still having problems with his knee. Up until now, he has had career totals of 287 tackles, five interceptions, and 3.5 sacks.
