Dwight Freeney - Colts' Star

Dwight Freeney was born on February 19, 1980 in Hartford, Connecticut, where he was a standout high school athlete, receiving many awards. Today, he is most known for being a member of the NFL team, the Indianapolis Colts.

Freeney earned honors as a defensive end an All-Central Connecticut West pick and was team captain and lettered as a tight end. Dwight was a four sport letterman, lettering in football, basketball, baseball and soccer, showing his athleticism in many areas of athletics.

In college, Freeney was a two year starter with the Syracuse Orangemen, and became the school’s best passer rusher. He was second in his school history for recording 34 sacks, having 104 tackles, 51 tackles for losses, 43 quarterback pressures and 6 passes defended for. Dwight was named a finalist for the Lombardi (for best defensive lineman), the Bednarik (for the top defensive player) and the Nagurski (for outstanding defensive player) awards.

In 2002, Freeney entered the NFL draft and was chosen in the first round by the Indianapolis Colts. Since the beginning of his career with the Colts, he’s the only Colt player with four double digit sack seasons, has recorded four of the twelve double digit sack seasons in Colts’ history and set a franchise record for 56.5 career sacks. Dwight Freeney is an athlete of high caliber, and continues to impress during his career with the Indianapolis Colts.

In 2003, Dwight earned a Pro Bowl selection only the first defensive player since defensive tackle Mike Barnes and defensive end John Dutton in 1977 and went back again in 2004 and 2005.

In 2007, Dwight helped his team win Super Bowl XL1, that year he became the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, second only to his teammate Peyton Manning.
