Bob Sanders was born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1981 and began his road to the professional football level in high school where he earned third team recognition as a junior and first team all-state honors as a senior. In his senior year he was team captain and as a running back, rushed for 1,100 yards and 15 touchdowns, playing a great role in his team's 13-1 season where they advanced to the state championship.
Bob Sanders now plays safety for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. He was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 for his outstanding performance for the Colts. His given name is Demond. His mother nicknamed him Bob so he would feel more comfortable in school. He is also called “The Hitman” because of his relentless, punishingly hard hits during games.
After his great showing in 2007, he was plagued by injuries in 2008. He suffered an ankle sprain in September 2008 that put him on the bench for six weeks. Shortly after he was back in the game, he missed the game against the Houston Texans because of a knee injury. The same knee put him on the bench for week 12 of the season.
Bob Sanders' hard hitting, all out approach to football, has made him a star, but at a cost of regular injury. The NFL and fans alike watch his progress with great interest to see what his future will be in the game of football.
