Dwight Freeney was born Febuary 19, 1980 in Hartford, Connecticut. He attended Bloomfield (Connecticut) High School where he was a 4 sport athlete. He excelled in basketball, baseball, and football where he lettered eleven times, and once in soccer. Freeney quickly became the town's stand-out athlete, earning himself several rewards throughout his high school career.
Dwight Freeney would get a scholarship to Syracuse University, where he was a 2 year starter, and became one of the school's all time best pass rushers. He would go on to set a school record with 17.5 sacks in his senior season, and 34 career sacks which ranks him second on the all-time school sack list behind Tom Greene. Freeney would also tally 104 tackles (68 solo), 14 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 51 tackles for losses, and 43 quarterback pressures. In 2001, he broke NCAA records for forced fumbles and fumble recoveries with 11 (8 forced and 3 recovered). Freeney in his senior season was All-America and All Big East Conference first-team, Big East Conference co-Defensive Player of the Year, and was finalist for the Lombardi (best lineman), Bednarik (top defensive player), and Nagurski (outstanding defensive player) Awards.
Freeney was drafted with the 11th pick in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. In his rookie season with the Colts, Freeney would set a rookie record for forced fumbles with 9. That would earn Freeney the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Now entering his 7th season, Freeney is the only Colts player with 4 consecutive double-digit sack seasons, and has the franchise record of 56.5 sacks for his career. He was a Super Bowl champ in 2007, when the Colts beat the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI.
