Tony Dungy is a man of great faith that walked away from coaching professional football to devote his time to doing things for others through God. Everywhere he has ever been, he left his legacy and touched many lives.
Tony was torn regarding coaching the Indianapolis Colts for one more season. His son's short notice need for surgery for a broken leg made his decision a little easier. He weighed his options, but the ultimate decision was made. He'd retire and put his faith and efforts into family and doing God's work. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse for his son, but he kept his good spirits. He showed his faith during the 19th annual Super Bowl breakfast, when he preached the gospel to everyone in attendance. He emphasized how they could let Jesus into their hearts and benefit from it. This took place only six weeks after his son's suicide.
Tony learned much during his years of coaching in the NFL, and he incorporated what he learned into his own values and beliefs. He emphasized that faith and family is more important than their job, and that everyone is to be treated equal. Tony wrote a memoir on coaching that took a totally different approach than usual. Players are to be treated with respect, without the usual screaming or belittling. You could demand things from them, but in a positive way.
Tony is a highly respected individual, both on the field and off. He's been involved in numerous organizations for boys, girls, and parents. He truly exemplifies the recognition he received for being inducted into the Society of World Changers.
