Bob Sanders of the Indianapolis Colts was born on February 24, 1981 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Jean and Marion Sanders. He played football as a running back and safety while attending High School at Cathedral Preparatory School where he lettered all four years. He also achieved an All-Conference selection twice, a third team All State selection and a first team All State selection. He received his “Hitman” nickname while attending college at the University of Iowa, due to the 12 tackles he achieved in his first game. It also garnered him an Honorable Mention All Big Ten that year and he led Iowa in tackles during his freshman year. His junior year his team had its first undefeated conference season. He was named First Team All Big Ten and Fourth Team All American that year. His senior year brought him the First Team All Big Ten along with Second Team All American.
The Colts drafted Sanders in 2004 and he had a nice rookie season and scored his first NFL touchdown after recovering a fumble. His second season earned him a spot in the 2006 Pro Bowl. A knee injury during the next season had him missing games, but he came back during the playoffs and the team eventually won the Super Bowl XLI. Another knee injury occurred during the 2008 season but he always heals and comes back out on the field with those big hits.
Sanders also began the Bob Sanders Chasing Dreams Foundation for students in grades 8-12 that helps them with their dreams of a college education.
