Tony Dungy

Anthony Kevin "Tony" Dungy was born on October 6, 1955 in Jackson Michigan. Dungy was a former football star in high school, as he was featured in Sports Illustrated in the "Faces in the Crowd" section. He was only 14 years old at the time and was acknowledged as a great athlete in the magazine. Dungy went on to play at the University of Minnesota for the Golden Gophers in football. He entered the NFL as an undrafted player with the Pittsburgh Steelers and played with them from 1977 to 1978. He then went on to play for the San Francisco 49ers in 1979. He ended his short stint in the NFL by playing for the New York Giants in 1980.

Even though Dungy didn't play for long in the NFL, he quickly got himself into the coaching aspect of the game. He started off as a defensive backs coach for the University of Minnesota, where he helped coach for a year. He very quickly got the opportunity to coach at the highest level after only one season with the Gophers. Dungy became a defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1981 to 1988. Dungy had some other coaching stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Indianapolis Colts.

Dungy is known as one of the best coaches in recent history. He won two Super Bowl Championships as a head coach and had a solid winning percentage of .668 for his career as a coach. Dungy is no longer coaching the Indianapolis Colts, and it is uncertain as to whether or not he will coach in the NFL again in the future.
