He was known to be a great quarterback in the NFL for many years. He was a legend in his time when he played and he is still considered a legend today. He was considered by many people to be one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play the game. Even though there are other great quarterbacks such as Joe Montana, Dan Marino, John Elway, Brett Favre, and many others, Unitas still ranks within the top quarterbacks.
Unitas was born on May 7, 1933 and lived until 2002. He certainly had some of the best stats out of any quarterback ever to play the game. He also had many different awards and accomplishments over his tenured career. He spent the vast majority of his football playing days with the Baltimore Colts. Nicknamed "The Golden Arm," Unitas was the most valuable player of the NFL in 1959, 1964 and 1967. He also set an NFL record by throwing a touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games, which still stands today.
Johnny Unitas was not the biggest person. He was 6'1" and weighed close to 145 pounds. He went to play college football for the Louisville Cardinals and became one of the best quarterbacks in Louisville's history. Not only did Unitas set records in college, but he set one of the most storied records in NFL history. The record was winning the Super Bowl championship in 1958 in sudden death overtime, which was the only time that has happened in Super Bowl history.
