Bob Sanders was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on February 24, 1981. He is only 5' 8" tall, which is short for a football player. In high school, he was a running back and a safety. Bob was chosen twice as All-Conference selection, and as a junior, he was third team All-State selection. As a senior, he was chosen as team captain, finishing his high school career with 900 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. He led the team to the state championship game with a 13-1 season. Sander also had 7 sacks while playing in high school.
Bob went to college at University of Iowa. In his first career start, he had 12 tackles, forced a fumble, and named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten as a freshman. In 2001, he earned the nickname “Hitman.” As a junior in college, he helped lead the team to its first undefeated season in 80 years. In his senior year, Sanders was hindered by a foot injury in the early part of the season. Upon returning to the team, on a fumble, he scored his first touchdown. In his final game at Iowa, Bob went on to score 16 tackles and forced three fumbles.
In the NFL Draft pick for 2004, he was picked in the second round and number 44 overall. He was the last pick to sign following the draft. With his performance from high school to college and now the NFL, he will be a player to be reckoned with in the future.
