Dwight Freeney, NFL American football defensive recently signed a six-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts for 72 millions dollars plus a 30 million dollar signing guarantee. This makes him the highest paid defensive football player in the NFL. He was hand-picked by Bill Polian, general manager of the Colts. He has been with the Colts since 2002.
Freeny was born on February 19, 1980, in Hartford Connecticut. His high school attendance was at Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Connecticut where he was a four sport letterman, getting four letters in baseball and basketball, three in football, and one in soccer. He holds the record of 120 sacks at Bloomfield High School. He attended Syracuse University where he was a two-year starter. He was the school’s premier pass rusher. He once had a string of 17 consecutive games with at least one sack. He is six feet one inch tall and weighs 268 pounds.
Freeney has sacked quarterbacks 56.5 times since entering the League in 2002. From 2002-2005 he averaged 13 sacks per game. He set an NFL rookie record in 2002 with nine forced fumbles. In the 2007 NFL season he suffered a Lisfranc fracture and had to miss playing the rest of the season. Due to the fracture he started training camp on the PUP list. He made his pre-season play in the fourth pre-season game against the Buffalo Bills. The 2008 season gave him 13 tackles and 3.0 sacks.
