Bob Sanders

Bob Sanders' birth name is originally Demond Sanders, but he dislikes his first name and people can seldom pronounce it correctly, so he changed it to Bob. Sanders was born on February 24, 1981 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He attended Erie Central High School for part of his freshman year, then he transferred to the Cathedral Predatory School for the remainder of his high school career.

In high school, Sanders was selected twice to play in the All-Conference and earned a letter in football all four years. He was an All-State selection his junior and senior year of high school, as well as the team captain his senior year. In 2000, he graduated from high school and began his college football career at the University of Iowa. He received the All-Big Ten as a freshman. The following year, he earned the nickname “Hitman” because of his powerful and lethal tackles. His junior year, he and his teammates managed to be undefeated throughout the conference season.

In 2003, Sanders graduated from college and in 2004, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He started in six games his first year playing in the NFL, and he started in the first 10 the next year. In 2006, he was the first Defensive back chosen to play in the Pro Bowl since the Colts relocated to Indianapolis. Although he was already nicknamed the "Hitman," he later earned two other names: “The Hulk” and “The Sandman” because of his powerful hits. He was a two time All-Pro and Pro-Bowl selection. He and his teammates won the Super Bowl XLI championship. In 2007, he was selected to be the AP and GMC Defensive Player of the Year.
