Johnny Unitas

The professional Johnny Unitas was born on May 7, 1933 and died on September 11, 2002. Unitas was given the nicknames The Golden Arm and Johnny U.

Johnny U was a name given to him as a professional player with the Baltimore colts team. His career began in the 1950s, and is known to be one of the most valuable player in 1959, 1964 and 1967. Johnny Unitas in his career made a record by throwing a touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games. This record was set between the years 1956-1960, and no player has passed it since 2008.

Johnny is known as the greatest football league quarter back in history. While playing for the Louisville cardinals, he managed to complete 245 passes for 3,139 yards with 27 touchdowns. The six foot, one inch player started playing with the university in the fifth game season in 1951. He threw 11 passes and made three touchdowns for which the Cardinals were at a 21-19 lead. The talented Unitas was a starting quarter back as a freshman. He completed 46 of 99 passes for a yards of 602 with nine touchdowns.

In 1952 the coach decided to move around the team to have a one-platoon setting football team in which the Unitas played as a line backer on defense, a kicker or punter for special teams and quarter back on defense. Unitas put up a great competitive match between Florida state ending at 41- 14 in there second game and it also said that Unitas threw a pass under his legs for 15 yards.
