When you think of football dynasties, which teams do you think of when you think of the 1960s and 70s? Do you know who won the 1971 Super Bowl? The team that won that Super Bowl started in Baltimore and moved to Indianapolis to become the Indianapolis Colts.
The Indianapolis Colts started their franchise in Baltimore, Maryland and played in that city for more than forty years. The Colts franchise started in 1946. Their run at fame had Johnny Unitas as one of their key players and Don Shula as their head coach. The Baltimore Colts won three division titles after winning the 1971 Super Bowl, but then had a long period of decline. They moved to Indianapolis in 1984, and had their ups and downs through the 1980s and 90s. Finally, in 1999, the Colts achieved a 13-3 record. The Indianapolis Colts' young quarterback, Peyton Manning, helped the team achieve the fantastic record, but they lost the divisional game to the Tennessee Titans.
The 2000 Colts recorded a decent 10-6 season, followed by a poor 6-10 season in 2001. The 2002 year saw the Colts achieve a 10-6 record, followed by 12-4 record for the 2003 season with a trip to the AFC Championship game. The loss in the AFC Championship game only inspired the Colts to try hard, and they finally achieved in 2006 the dream of every professional football player, the winning of a Super Bowl game and the privilege of wearing a championship ring.
The Indianapolis Colts have been playing football for 55 years and have racked up an impressive 432 wins, 401 losses and seven ties. This record includes 4 world championships and 17 conference titles. This team has had a long and proud history, and is a team that fans enjoy watching play.
