History of the Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are part of the NFL and reside in Indianapolis, IN. They have had several AFC Championships and Wildcard games. After years of disaster and losing streaks, they acquired players such as Peyton Manning, Edgerrin James and Marvin Harrison. The Colts won the 2006 Super Bowl with Manning named as MVP, and Coach Tony Dungy was the first African American coach to win a Super Bowl.

Formerly known as the Baltimore Colts, they moved to Indiana in 1984 and changed their name. It was a new beginning, but for several years it was an uphill battle. After 3 years, they won the AFC East title. They missed out on the playoffs by one game in 1988. Hard times fell on the Colts again, and 1991 was their worst season in history. To bring the team back to their winning glory, they rehired former coach Marchibroda. However, still no glory was won by the team. Changes again took place in 1994 in team trading to bring new blood to an old team. Former coach Harbaugh took the reins and led the Colts on a fantastic ride a year later. The Super Bowl was within their sights, only to lose it again.

For the next few years, the team struggled through injuries of players, the death of the owner and ups and downs in defensive playing. To boost the team, Peyton Manning was drafted to bring life back to the team. From 2002 to 2005, the team began to pick up their game. They took 2nd place in the AFC South and headed to a second straight division title, but still had no Super Bowl win. Finally, in 2006, the Colts won the Super Bowl against the Chicago Bears, with a final score of 29-17.
