Reggie Wayne is a NFL football player who currently plays with the Indianapolis Colts. He is a wide receiver and joined the Colts in 2001. His professional NFL record ranging from 2001-2008 currently consists of 7,452 rushing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 527 receptions.
Reggie Wayne was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended John Ehret High School where he played on the football and track team. He had an amazing record in high school, and has set records that have yet to be broken. In his senior year alone, he caught 50 passes for 930 yards. He also scored 10 touchdowns. Since he was also a participant in track and field, he ran the 200-meter dash and also participated in various relays. He attended the University of Miami and also set records there which included 173 career catches. He is only one of three wide receivers ever to make more than 20 touchdowns in the school’s history.
Since his professional career began, he has stayed with the Colts, but initially he was drafted as somewhat of a backup plan just in case their star receiver, Marvin Harrison, was unable to play or was taken out of the game for some reason. When Wayne finally did get a chance to showcase his skills, he ended his first season with only 27 caught passes and no touchdowns. Despite this, when his contract was up, he was offered a 6-year, $39.5 million contract to remain on the team.
In 2002, Reggie Wayne sought to redeem himself and put up impressive numbers. He caught Peyton Manning’s attention in 2003 with an even better record, and was named Wild Card Weekend Offensive Player of the Week after the Colts played and defeated the Broncos. Unfortunately, his season was overshadowed by Marvin Harrison because of the single season passing touchdown record Harrison had set.
In hopes of becoming a star receiver, Wayne has remained with the Colts. He has set personal records and highs of his own since being with the Colts. For Super Bowl XLI, he caught a 53-yard touchdown against the Bears. The Colts won the Super Bowl that year.
